- In this full page ad from the Australian Government, there is a young man that looks deranged.
- Almost like he is at his wit’s end and about to end his life with a gun…made out of cigarettes.
- Yelling at the person to “Step back!” or telling them not to get any closer.
- The stark contrast of this young man wearing a white t-shirt on a black backdrop is very “loud”.
- The lighting and the shadows that play on his face give the since of foreboding or eminent danger, which ultimately adds to threat of the cigarette gun.
- Personally this image scares me. Though I do not know the man, I can’t help but relate somehow.
- It’s only human to think about taking one’s own life, but is suicide really the best option here?
- Clearly it isn’t, he has his whole life ahead of him, but the cigarettes are going to kill him.
- All hope is not lost though, because there is an option, found in the top left corner. A hotline, committed to helping smokers quit is there and can be reached.
- His life isn’t over and neither is mine nor yours.
- Could this man be yelling at the smokers or is he merely frustrated with himself?
- This could be a cry for help and the help is ready to help him and the smoking population of Australia.
- If the message of this advertisement was to convince people to quit killing themselves, I think we get it Loud and Clear.
